Over Christmas and the New Year health services may operate slightly altered opening hours; for example, there are just a limited number of chemists available for the dispensing of medicines. On this page you will find all you need know about accessing GPs, pharmacies and dentists over the festive period.
Remember to choose well and leave A&E for genuine life-threating serious illnesses or injuries.
GPs
GP practices are open 'as normal' on their normal working days but will be closed on the Bank Holidays (Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th December and Monday 2 January 2012). Where practices choose to close early (for example on 23rd December) they will make arrangements for the out-of-hours provider to cover. All you need to do is ring your GP practice and a recorded message will provide a number to dial or will direct you straight through.
Dentists
On days where dental practices are closed (see on-page download) - and in a situation where someone requires emergency dental treatment - you can contact the Dearne Valley Dental Emergency Service on 0845 155 0845 as follows:

If you require a prescription dispensed as a matter of urgency on the days indicated above, your GP or the local police will advise you of chemists who are prepared to dispense prescriptions in an emergency on those days.
Patients should not attend the hospital pharmacy. No facility is available during the bank holiday period.
