Navigating our web site

Access keys

If you have difficulty in using a mouse or similar devices, you can use keyboard shortcuts. Information on how to use each of the keyboard shortcuts available is below. They enable you to navigate using only the keyboard.

  • A - Home
  • B - Your local health services
  • C - Your health
  • D - Local news and events
  • E - Your NHS Barnsley
  • F - Your voice

Depending on your browser use one of the following methods to use access keys:

  • Internet Explorer: Hold down the ALT key and select the number/letter of the access key, then press ENTER.
  • Mozilla: Hold down the ALT key and select the number/letter of the access key.

Resizing text

If the text is too small for you to comfortably read then you can resize it accordingly. If your mouse has a scroll wheel you can, in most browsers, increase and decrease the size of text by holding down the CTRL key and using the scroll wheel on your mouse. Alternatively Internet Explorer, Mozilla based browsers such as Firefox and WebKit based browsers such as Safari on the Mac and Chrome on the PC have menus to allow you to set the text size manually:

  • Internet Explorer (version 5 and later): choose Tools>Internet Options…>Accessibility… and check the ignore font sizes specified on web pages option. Click OK, OK, and then you can alter the text size using the View>Text Size option.
  • All other browsers should be able to resize the text directly from the menu bar or by holding CTRL and using your scroll wheel. Please see your specific browser help pages if you are having difficulty.

Downloadable documents

Where possible we try to provide downloadable documents in pdf format which can be opened on the majority of computers and a growing number of mobile devices.

it is likely your computer is already able to open and view PDF files. If you find you are unable to open a PDF file PDF viewers are available for Windows, Mac and Linux

Mobile devices and 'smartphones' such as the iPhone, Blackberry and Android or Windows Phone 7 based devices often include a built-in PDF viewer.
