Choosing your GP is an important decision, which is why we aim to provide you with as much information as possible about all 40 + GP practices in the borough, so you can be sure that your choice is the right one for you.
While you can choose to register with any practice, there are a number of practices that are accredited through a GP Quality Practice Award scheme. These practices meet standards which NHS Barnsley believes should be available for all patients, such as, having the correct number of GP’s and practice staff for the right number of registered patients. This is important; because without the right number of staff there will be a variety in the ability of practices to see you when you need to be seen. Also without the right number of staff, the practice might not be able to provide all the services that we believe should be available for you to access and to be close to home.
Through the GP Quality Practice Award scheme the practice is assessed by other GP’s to give independent assurance that the care provided at the practice will meet your needs.

If you are currently registered with a Barnsley GP practice and wish to change, then you can. If you would like to register with the GP practice then you should call the practice directly to arrange an appointment. There is no need for you to contact your existing GP practice to de-register as this is all taken care of for you.
